In 1936 Hurley Engineering in Tacoma began servicing the South Puget Sound community specializing in boiler service and combustion analysis. Since the beginning two steadfast entities have been involved with Hurley Engineering Company of Tacoma. The first is the Ray Burner Company of California. In the early days Ray Burner Company was the leader in rotary oil fired burners many of which are still in operation today. Ray Burner partnered with Hurley Engineering to develop what has become a 70 year relationship. Secondly but not in the least is the dedication and determination of the founders and employees of Hurley Engineering. Hurley Engineering was founded by James Hurley in the 1930’s in Tacoma where it thrived under the ownership of Ed and Bob Winskell until it was merged with Hurley Engineering of Seattle in 1955. In 1956 Fred Dewar, Stuart Haywood and George Panzer began working at Hurley Engineering and finally purchased the company in 1968. After several years Stuart Haywood took over ownership and guided the company until 1999 when his son Jeff “Buck” Haywood became President and in 2003 sole owner. Today Hurley Engineering remains loyal to its beginning while creating relationships with new customers and new manufacturers like Grundfos, PACO, Versamatic AOD Pumps, Hydromatic, Riverside Hydronics, DeDetrich Boilers, Triad Boilers and Baldor Motors. In our upcoming 74th anniversary we remain dedicated to the foundation that was laid over the last three generations of family ownership. Pride, service and integrity are the standard.
