CTV will have semi-swath hull form

France’s Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and its U.K.-based partner Tidal Transit have won another offshore wind Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) services contract for the Saint Nazaire offshore wind farm. It follows the two-CTV contract announced last month.

With 80 GE Haliade 150-6MW wind turbines, the Saint-Nazaire wind farm will have an installed capacity of 480 MW and will supply 20% of the electricity consumption of the Loire-Atlantique department, in France.

To service the contract, French shipyard Ocea will construct a new vessel, designed by Nantes-based naval architect Mauric, that will be operated by joint-venture LD Tide to transfer technicians to and from the wind farm. It will be the third vessel to be operated by LD Tide to serve the Saint Nazaire farm (see earlier story).

The construction of the CTV will start in 2021 with commissioning scheduled for 2022.

Provisional technical characteristics of the CTV are:

Length: 26.70 meters

Width: 9.40 meters

Draft: 1.80 meters

Of aluminum construction, the vessel will have a semi-swath hull form, allowing for better seakeeping performance to facilitate the transfer of technicians in rough seas. It will feature a T-foil to reduce fuel consumption and will be IMO Tier III compliant and equipped for shore power connection.

Carrying 24 technicians and three crew members it will have a service speed of 25 knots and a cargo capacity of 10 tons.
